• Heart rhythm: Ofloxacin can prolong the QT interval in susceptible patients. Tell your doctor about heart-rhythm problems, low potassium or medicines that affect cardiac rhythm.
• Myasthenia gravis: Ofloxacin may worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis and should be avoided in patients with a known history of this condition.
• Blood glucose: Fluoroquinolones can affect blood glucose levels, particularly in people using insulin or oral diabetes medicines.
• Kidney function: The dose may need adjustment in patients with impaired kidney function.
• Tell your healthcare professional about all medicines and supplements you take.
• Avoid taking mineral supplements or antacids containing aluminium, magnesium, calcium or iron at the same time unless your healthcare professional provides appropriate instructions, because these products can reduce absorption of oral fluoroquinolones.
• Use antibiotics only for bacterial infections for which they are prescribed. Unnecessary antibiotic use can contribute to antimicrobial resistance.
