Description
TELHEX 20 contains Telmisartan I.P. 20 mg in tablet form. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to lower high blood pressure. It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that causes blood vessels to narrow. This helps blood vessels relax and supports better blood pressure control.

Uses of TELHEX 20
TELHEX 20 may be prescribed as part of a treatment plan for:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Blood pressure management in patients requiring an angiotensin II receptor blocker
- Combination antihypertensive therapy when additional blood pressure control is required
- Cardiovascular risk management in selected patients when clinically appropriate
Telmisartan may be used alone or together with other antihypertensive medicines, depending on the patient’s blood pressure, medical history and treatment response.
Key Benefits of TELHEX 20
- Supports blood pressure control: Telmisartan helps lower elevated blood pressure.
- ARB-based therapy: Provides angiotensin II receptor blockade for antihypertensive treatment.
- Promotes blood vessel relaxation: Blocking angiotensin II reduces vasoconstriction.
- Supports cardiovascular management: Effective blood pressure control forms an important part of cardiovascular risk management.
- Convenient oral formulation: Supplied as a tablet for oral administration.
- 20 mg strength: Provides a lower-strength telmisartan formulation for individualized treatment when prescribed.
How TELHEX 20 Works
Telmisartan blocks the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor.
Angiotensin II normally causes blood vessels to narrow and contributes to sodium and fluid retention. By preventing angiotensin II from activating AT1 receptors, telmisartan reduces vasoconstriction and helps lower blood pressure.
As a result, TELHEX 20 can support blood pressure control when used according to an appropriate treatment plan.
Common Side Effects of TELHEX 20
Some people taking telmisartan may experience:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Low blood pressure
- Back pain
- Diarrhoea
- Tiredness or weakness
- Nausea
Dizziness can occur when blood pressure falls, particularly when treatment starts or when dehydration is present. If dizziness is significant or persistent, consult a healthcare professional.
Important Safety Information
Use TELHEX 20 only according to the advice of a qualified healthcare professional.
- Monitor blood pressure regularly as recommended.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease or a history of low blood pressure.
- Telmisartan can affect potassium levels, particularly in patients with kidney problems or those taking medicines that increase potassium.
- Inform your doctor before using potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes.
- Dehydration or significant fluid loss can increase the risk of low blood pressure.
- Tell your healthcare professional about all medicines you take, particularly other medicines that affect the renin-angiotensin system, potassium levels or kidney function.
- The combination of an ACE inhibitor and an ARB is generally not recommended because it can increase the risk of kidney problems, low blood pressure and high potassium.
- Telmisartan should not be used during pregnancy because medicines that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause fetal injury. If pregnancy occurs, contact your healthcare professional promptly.
- Telmisartan should not be combined with aliskiren in patients with diabetes.
- Patients with impaired kidney or liver function may require closer medical monitoring.
- Do not stop antihypertensive treatment suddenly without discussing it with your doctor.
For additional information about telmisartan, its precautions and approved uses, refer to the official Telmisartan prescribing information.
Dosage & Administration
Take TELHEX 20 exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.
The appropriate telmisartan dose depends on the patient’s blood pressure, response to treatment, kidney and liver function, other medicines and clinical requirements.
Although 20 mg tablets are an available strength, the current prescribing information lists 40 mg once daily as the usual starting dose for hypertension, with a labelled dose range of 40–80 mg once daily. Blood pressure response can occur across the 20–80 mg range, so a 20 mg tablet may be used when specifically prescribed.
TELHEX 20 may be taken with or without food. Take it at approximately the same time each day and do not change the dose without medical advice.
