Description
TELHEX AMH contains Telmisartan I.P. 40 mg and Amlodipine I.P. 5 mg in tablet form. This combination brings together an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and a calcium channel blocker (CCB) to help lower high blood pressure. Telmisartan helps relax blood vessels by blocking the action of angiotensin II, while Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels through calcium-channel blockade. Together, they provide complementary blood-pressure-lowering action when combination therapy is appropriate.

Uses of TELHEX AMH
TELHEX AMH may be prescribed as part of a treatment plan for:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Patients who require combination antihypertensive therapy
- Patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with Telmisartan or Amlodipine alone
- Initial treatment in selected patients who are likely to require more than one antihypertensive medicine
- Long-term blood pressure management as directed by a healthcare professional
Controlling high blood pressure helps reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular complications. The exact treatment approach depends on the patient’s blood pressure, medical history and other medicines.
Key Benefits of TELHEX AMH
- Dual-action formulation: Combines an ARB with a calcium channel blocker.
- Telmisartan 40 mg: Helps block angiotensin II from tightening blood vessels.
- Amlodipine 5 mg: Helps relax and widen blood vessels.
- Blood pressure support: Provides complementary mechanisms for hypertension management.
- Convenient combination: Provides two antihypertensive medicines in one tablet.
- Once-daily formulation: The referenced telmisartan/amlodipine prescribing information supports once-daily administration for the 40/5 mg combination.
How TELHEX AMH Works
Telmisartan belongs to the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) class. It blocks the AT1 receptor, reducing the effects of angiotensin II. As a result, blood vessels can remain more relaxed, which helps lower blood pressure.
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It reduces calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle cells, helping the arteries relax and widen. This reduces resistance to blood flow and lowers blood pressure.
Therefore, TELHEX AMH combines two complementary mechanisms to support blood pressure control.
Common Side Effects of TELHEX AMH
Some people may experience side effects while taking Telmisartan and Amlodipine. Possible effects include:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Swelling of the ankles, feet or legs
- Flushing
- Palpitations or a noticeable heartbeat
- Fatigue or weakness
- Nausea
- Abdominal discomfort
- Diarrhoea
Amlodipine commonly causes ankle or leg swelling, headache and dizziness, while ARBs such as Telmisartan can also cause dizziness or fatigue.
Important Safety Information
Use TELHEX AMH only according to the advice of a qualified healthcare professional.
- Monitor blood pressure regularly during treatment.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, heart disease or low blood pressure.
- Telmisartan can affect kidney function and potassium levels, so appropriate monitoring may be required in some patients.
- Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless your healthcare professional recommends them.
- Tell your doctor about medicines that may increase potassium levels, including certain diuretics and other medicines affecting the renin-angiotensin system.
- Combining an ARB such as Telmisartan with an ACE inhibitor is generally not recommended because of increased risks involving kidney function, potassium and low blood pressure.
- Do not use Telmisartan during pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, contact your healthcare professional promptly because medicines that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause fetal injury.
- Telmisartan and Amlodipine should not be combined with aliskiren in patients with diabetes according to the referenced prescribing information.
- Amlodipine may cause dizziness or low blood pressure, particularly when treatment starts or the dose changes.
- Tell your doctor if you have heart failure, recent heart attack, significant heart-valve disease or very low blood pressure before taking Amlodipine.
- Inform your healthcare professional about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbal supplements you use.
- Do not stop antihypertensive treatment suddenly without medical advice.
For additional information about Amlodipine, refer to the NHS guidance on Amlodipine.
