Uses of MOXIHEX
MOXIHEX may be prescribed for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria.
Depending on the clinical diagnosis, an ophthalmologist may also consider topical antibiotic therapy in selected bacterial eye conditions such as:
- Bacterial conjunctivitis
- Certain bacterial ocular infections
- Bacterial eye infections requiring topical antibiotic treatment
The product should be used only when a bacterial infection is suspected or confirmed and according to the healthcare professional’s advice. Antibiotic eye drops do not treat viral or fungal eye infections.
Blepharitis and bacterial keratitis require appropriate clinical assessment because treatment can vary according to the cause and severity. Similarly, post-surgical eye inflammation requires ophthalmologist-directed management and should not automatically be treated with an antibiotic alone.
Key Benefits of MOXIHEX
- Antibacterial action: Moxifloxacin provides topical fluoroquinolone antibacterial activity.
- Bacterial conjunctivitis: Specifically indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible organisms.
- Broad antibacterial coverage: Moxifloxacin is active against a range of susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.
- Sterile ophthalmic formulation: Designed for topical administration to the eye.
- Convenient eye-drop form: Supplied in a 5 ML ophthalmic pack.
How MOXIHEX Works
Moxifloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes that bacteria require for DNA replication and repair.
By interfering with these enzymes, moxifloxacin prevents susceptible bacteria from multiplying and can lead to bacterial cell death.
The activity of ophthalmic moxifloxacin depends on the susceptibility of the causative organism. Therefore, antibiotic treatment should follow appropriate clinical assessment.
Common Side Effects of MOXIHEX
Some people may experience temporary eye-related effects after using moxifloxacin eye drops, including:
- Eye irritation
- Eye discomfort
- Dry eye
- Eye redness
- Itching
- Tearing
- Temporary blurred vision
- Changes in visual comfort
More serious hypersensitivity reactions are possible, although uncommon. Stop using the product and seek medical attention if you develop significant swelling, difficulty breathing, severe rash or other symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.
