How IBUPSTEP Works
IBUPSTEP contains two medicines that help manage pain and fever through different mechanisms.
Ibuprofen belongs to the NSAID class and reduces the production of prostaglandins involved in pain, inflammation and fever.
Paracetamol provides analgesic and antipyretic effects and helps reduce fever and pain.
Together, these ingredients provide combined symptomatic relief when the formulation is appropriate for the child and used according to professional or product-label directions.
Common Side Effects of IBUPSTEP
Children may experience side effects depending on individual sensitivity and the dose used. Possible effects include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Stomach discomfort
- Indigestion
- Diarrhoea
- Skin rash
Ibuprofen can also cause more serious gastrointestinal, allergic or kidney-related adverse effects, particularly in susceptible children or when used incorrectly.
Paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver injury, so caregivers must avoid giving multiple medicines containing paracetamol at the same time.
Important Safety Information
- IBUPSTEP is for paediatric use only.
- Use the product only according to the manufacturer’s label or as directed by a healthcare professional.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose.
- Do not give another medicine containing Paracetamol/Acetaminophen at the same time unless advised by a healthcare professional.
- Do not combine IBUPSTEP with another NSAID, including ibuprofen, unless specifically advised.
- Ibuprofen may increase the risk of stomach bleeding, particularly in children with certain risk factors or dehydration.
- Seek medical advice before use in a child with kidney disease, stomach ulcers/bleeding, significant dehydration, asthma triggered by aspirin/NSAIDs, or known allergy to ibuprofen or other NSAIDs.
- Use particular care if the child is vomiting or has diarrhoea, because dehydration can increase the risk of kidney-related problems with ibuprofen.
- Use an appropriate oral syringe or supplied measuring device. Do not use a household spoon for measuring medicine.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- If fever or pain persists, worsens or new symptoms develop, seek medical advice rather than continuing self-treatment.
Dosage & Administration
Give IBUPSTEP only according to the dosage instructions on the product label or as directed by a healthcare professional.
The appropriate paediatric dose depends on factors such as the child’s age, body weight, clinical condition and the exact concentration of the formulation. Therefore, the 60 ML bottle size should not be used to calculate the dose.
Shake the suspension well before use and measure each dose accurately using the supplied dosing device. Official paediatric ibuprofen labeling recommends weight-based dosing where possible and stresses the use of an appropriate measuring device.
Do not administer more frequently or in a larger quantity than recommended.
Storage
Store IBUPSTEP according to the manufacturer’s labelled storage conditions.
- Keep the bottle tightly closed.
- Store away from excessive heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
- Do not freeze unless the manufacturer specifically permits it.
- Store in the original packaging where appropriate.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Check the product label for the exact storage conditions and expiry information.
