Description

GLIMPEX PM1 contains Glimepiride 1 mg, Metformin 500 mg and Pioglitazone 15 mg in a bilayered tablet formulation. This combination brings together three different approaches to blood glucose management: Glimepiride stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells, Metformin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production, while Pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. Together, these medicines may be prescribed for selected adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when combination therapy is considered appropriate.

Therapeutic Segment

Anti-Diabetic Therapy | Type 2 Diabetes Management | Oral Hypoglycemic Agents | Blood Glucose Control

Uses of GLIMPEX PM1

GLIMPEX PM1 may be prescribed as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for type 2 diabetes mellitus when blood glucose control requires more than one oral antidiabetic mechanism.

The combination may support:

  • Reduction of elevated blood glucose levels
  • Improved glycemic control alongside appropriate diet and exercise
  • Insulin secretion through Glimepiride
  • Improved insulin sensitivity through Metformin and Pioglitazone
  • Management of type 2 diabetes when combination therapy is medically appropriate

The exact choice of this three-drug combination depends on the patient’s blood glucose levels, treatment history, kidney and liver function, cardiovascular status and response to previous therapy.

Key Benefits of GLIMPEX PM1

  • Triple-action approach: Combines three oral antidiabetic medicines with different mechanisms.
  • Glimepiride 1 mg: Helps stimulate insulin release from pancreatic beta cells.
  • Metformin 500 mg: Helps improve glycemic control and reduces hepatic glucose production as part of its glucose-lowering action.
  • Pioglitazone 15 mg: Improves insulin sensitivity and supports glucose utilization in peripheral tissues.
  • Convenient bilayered formulation: Provides three active ingredients in one oral dosage form.
  • Supports ongoing diabetes management: Should be used together with the diet, physical activity and monitoring plan recommended by the healthcare professional.

How GLIMPEX PM1 Works

Glimepiride belongs to the sulfonylurea class. It primarily lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. It binds to sulfonylurea receptors and promotes insulin secretion.

Metformin improves glycemic control through several mechanisms, including reducing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity. It does not normally stimulate pancreatic insulin secretion on its own.

Pioglitazone belongs to the thiazolidinedione class. It improves insulin sensitivity, allowing tissues to respond more effectively to insulin.

Therefore, GLIMPEX PM1 combines insulin-secretagogue, insulin-sensitizing and glucose-production-lowering actions within one formulation.

Common Side Effects of GLIMPEX PM1

Possible side effects can vary between patients and may include:

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Indigestion
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Weight gain
  • Swelling of the feet or ankles

Because Glimepiride increases insulin secretion, hypoglycemia is an important potential adverse effect. The risk can increase when it is combined with other glucose-lowering medicines.

Metformin commonly causes gastrointestinal effects, particularly when treatment begins. Pioglitazone can cause fluid retention and edema and may contribute to weight gain.

Important Safety Information

Use GLIMPEX PM1 only under the direction of a qualified healthcare professional.

  • Monitor blood glucose regularly as recommended by your doctor.
  • Learn to recognize symptoms of low blood sugar, such as sweating, shakiness, hunger, dizziness, confusion, weakness or a fast heartbeat.
  • Glimepiride can cause hypoglycemia. The risk may increase with missed meals, excessive alcohol intake, strenuous activity or use with other glucose-lowering medicines.
  • Metformin is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m²). Renal function should be assessed before and periodically during treatment.
  • Metformin carries a warning for lactic acidosis, a rare but serious complication. The risk increases particularly with significant renal impairment and certain other medical conditions or medicines.
  • Tell your doctor before treatment if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, severe illness or problems with alcohol use.
  • Pioglitazone can cause fluid retention and may cause or worsen congestive heart failure. Report rapid weight gain, increasing swelling or shortness of breath promptly.
  • Pioglitazone should not be used in patients with active bladder cancer and requires caution in patients with a previous history of bladder cancer.
  • Pioglitazone has also been associated with edema, fractures and macular edema; report unexplained swelling or new visual changes to your healthcare professional.
  • Inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, supplements and other diabetes medicines you take.
  • Tell your healthcare professional if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Do not stop, increase or decrease GLIMPEX PM1 without medical advice.

Dosage & Administration

Take GLIMPEX PM1 exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

The appropriate dosing schedule depends on the patient’s blood glucose control, previous antidiabetic treatment, kidney and liver function, diet, other medicines and tolerance.

Because GLIMPEX PM1 contains three glucose-lowering medicines, the dose should not be adjusted independently. Take the tablet according to the prescription and follow the recommended meal and blood-glucose monitoring schedule.

If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional rather than taking an extra dose without advice.

  • Protect the tablets from excessive heat and moisture.
