Description
EXAMLO-5 contains Amlodipine I.P. 5 mg in tablet form. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used to lower high blood pressure and help prevent certain types of angina. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more easily and reduces the workload on the heart.

Uses of EXAMLO-5
EXAMLO-5 may be prescribed for:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Chronic stable angina
- Vasospastic or Prinzmetal’s angina
- Selected patients with coronary artery disease, according to medical assessment
By lowering blood pressure, amlodipine helps reduce cardiovascular risk. In patients with angina, it helps improve blood flow and reduce the frequency of angina attacks.
Key Benefits of EXAMLO-5
- Helps control high blood pressure: Supports reduction of elevated blood pressure.
- Supports angina management: Helps prevent certain types of angina attacks.
- Promotes blood vessel relaxation: Reduces vascular resistance by relaxing vascular smooth muscle.
- Long-acting calcium channel blocker: Amlodipine is generally taken once daily when prescribed.
- Convenient oral formulation: Available as a 5 mg tablet for routine antihypertensive therapy.
How EXAMLO-5 Works
Amlodipine belongs to the dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker group. It reduces the movement of calcium into vascular smooth muscle cells. As a result, the blood vessels relax and widen, lowering peripheral vascular resistance and helping reduce blood pressure.
In patients with angina, this vasodilation can improve coronary blood flow and reduce the workload on the heart.
Common Side Effects of EXAMLO-5
Some people may experience:
- Swelling of the ankles, feet or legs
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Flushing
- Palpitations
- Tiredness or weakness
- Nausea
- Abdominal discomfort
- Sleepiness
Peripheral edema is one of the most commonly reported adverse effects and can occur in a dose-related manner.
Important Safety Information
Use EXAMLO-5 only as directed by a healthcare professional.
- Do not stop taking amlodipine without medical advice, even if you feel well. Hypertension often does not cause noticeable symptoms.
- Tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, heart failure, severe heart valve disease or a recent heart attack.
- Patients with severe aortic stenosis may be more susceptible to symptomatic hypotension.
- If you have severe liver impairment, your doctor may need to adjust treatment gradually because amlodipine is extensively metabolised by the liver.
- Inform your healthcare professional about all medicines you take, including other blood-pressure medicines.
- Amlodipine can interact with some medicines, including certain drugs that affect amlodipine levels and simvastatin.
- Contact a healthcare professional if swelling becomes troublesome or persistent.
- Seek urgent medical attention for severe dizziness or fainting, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or other signs of a serious allergic reaction.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding before using amlodipine.
For additional patient information, refer to the NHS Amlodipine guidance.
