Uses of CLOZYNE

CLOZYNE may be prescribed for the relief of inflammatory and itchy symptoms associated with selected corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.

Depending on the diagnosis, clobetasol propionate may be considered for conditions such as:

  • Selected inflammatory skin disorders
  • Severe localized dermatitis or eczema when a very potent topical corticosteroid is appropriate
  • Certain corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses associated with redness, inflammation and itching
  • Selected plaque-type psoriasis under appropriate medical supervision

The exact indication depends on the diagnosis, severity, affected body area and clinical assessment. Clobetasol should not be used routinely for undiagnosed rashes or as a general-purpose skin cream.

Key Benefits of CLOZYNE

  • Powerful anti-inflammatory action: Helps reduce inflammation associated with corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions.
  • Relieves itching: Can reduce pruritus associated with inflammatory dermatoses.
  • Helps reduce redness and irritation: Suppresses excessive inflammatory activity in the skin.
  • High-potency corticosteroid: Clobetasol propionate belongs to the super-high-potency topical corticosteroid group.
  • Topical formulation: Designed for direct application to affected skin areas.
  • Convenient 30 GM pack: Supplied in a practical cream format.

How CLOZYNE Works

Clobetasol Propionate is a synthetic corticosteroid with strong glucocorticoid activity. After topical application, it acts on corticosteroid receptors in skin cells and modifies inflammatory processes.

As a result, it can reduce the production and activity of inflammatory mediators. This helps decrease redness, swelling, irritation and itching associated with responsive inflammatory skin conditions.

Because clobetasol is highly potent, treatment generally requires careful control of the application area, quantity and duration.

Common Side Effects of CLOZYNE

Some people may experience local skin reactions, particularly with prolonged or inappropriate use. Possible effects include:

  • Burning or stinging
  • Itching
  • Skin irritation
  • Dryness
  • Redness
  • Folliculitis
  • Changes in skin pigmentation
  • Thinning of the skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Increased visibility of small blood vessels

Using potent topical corticosteroids for prolonged periods or over large areas can increase systemic absorption and may cause more significant corticosteroid-related effects.

Important Safety Information

Use CLOZYNE only according to the instructions of a healthcare professional.

  • CLOZYNE is for external dermatological use only.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes. It should not be used as an ophthalmic preparation.
  • Do not apply routinely to the face, groin or underarms unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
  • Do not apply to large areas of the body unless specifically prescribed.
  • Avoid prolonged or continuous use because clobetasol is a very potent corticosteroid.
  • Do not cover treated areas with occlusive dressings unless specifically instructed.
  • Do not use it to treat untreated fungal, bacterial or viral skin infections unless the underlying infection is appropriately managed.
  • Corticosteroids can sometimes mask or worsen an infection, so an unexplained or worsening rash should be medically assessed.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of skin infection, skin thinning or other significant dermatological conditions.
  • Tell your healthcare professional about other topical medicines or corticosteroid products you are using.
  • Children may be more susceptible to corticosteroid-related adverse effects; use in children should follow specific medical advice.
  • Consult your healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Stop using the product and seek medical advice if significant irritation, allergic symptoms or worsening of the skin condition occurs.

Current prescribing information describes clobetasol propionate 0.05% cream as a super-high-potency corticosteroid and limits treatment duration in the referenced formulation to 2 consecutive weeks, with a maximum of 50 g per week.

For detailed prescribing information, refer to the DailyMed information for Clobetasol Propionate Cream USP 0.05%.

Dosage & Administration

Apply CLOZYNE exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.

For the referenced clobetasol 0.05% cream formulation, prescribing information directs application of a thin layer to affected skin areas twice daily, followed by gentle rubbing into the skin. Treatment should generally remain short term because of the high potency of clobetasol.

Do not apply more frequently or use larger quantities than recommended. Do not continue treatment beyond the prescribed period without medical advice.

If the skin condition does not improve within the expected treatment period, or if it becomes worse, the diagnosis and treatment should be reassessed rather than simply continuing clobetasol.

Storage

  • Store CLOZYNE in a cool, dry place.
  • Protect the cream from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use.
  • Keep the product in its original packaging.
  • Do not freeze or refrigerate unless the product label specifically instructs otherwise.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.

For reference, current clobetasol cream labeling recommends storage around 15°C to 30°C and advises against refrigeration. Follow the storage conditions printed on the CLOZYNE packaging.
