Description
MOXIHEX-D combines Moxifloxacin 0.5% and Dexamethasone 0.1% in an ophthalmic eye-drop formulation. Moxifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that helps treat susceptible bacterial eye infections, while Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces ocular inflammation. This combination may be prescribed when both antibacterial treatment and control of inflammation are clinically appropriate.

Uses of MOXIHEX-D
MOXIHEX-D may be prescribed for selected eye conditions where a healthcare professional considers both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatment appropriate.
Depending on the clinical diagnosis, it may be used for:
- Bacterial conjunctivitis associated with ocular inflammation
- Selected bacterial ocular infections requiring antibiotic therapy
- Ocular inflammation following certain eye procedures, when specifically prescribed
- Selected inflammatory eye conditions where an accompanying bacterial infection or risk of infection requires antibiotic coverage
- Certain cases of blepharitis or bacterial keratitis under ophthalmologist supervision
Bacterial keratitis requires prompt ophthalmic assessment, and steroid-containing preparations should not be used without appropriate professional diagnosis and monitoring. Corticosteroids can suppress the immune response and may worsen or mask some infections.
Key Benefits of MOXIHEX-D
- Dual-action formulation: Combines an ophthalmic antibiotic with a corticosteroid.
- Antibacterial activity: Moxifloxacin targets susceptible bacteria responsible for certain ocular infections.
- Anti-inflammatory action: Dexamethasone helps reduce inflammation, redness and swelling associated with steroid-responsive ocular conditions.
- Support after selected procedures: The corticosteroid component may help control inflammation when prescribed after appropriate ophthalmic procedures.
- Convenient ophthalmic formulation: Supplied as eye drops in a 5 ML pack.
How MOXIHEX-D Works
Moxifloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone antibiotic class. It inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes required for bacterial DNA replication and repair. This action helps prevent susceptible bacteria from multiplying.
Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid. It reduces inflammatory responses in ocular tissues and can decrease inflammation associated with steroid-responsive conditions. However, corticosteroids can also suppress local immune responses, so they require careful use when infection is present.
Together, the two ingredients provide antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity when the combination is clinically appropriate.
Common Side Effects of MOXIHEX-D
Some people may experience temporary ocular effects, including:
- Eye irritation
- Burning or stinging after instillation
- Eye redness
- Eye discomfort
- Itching
- Dryness
- Increased tearing
- Temporary blurred vision
Dexamethasone-containing eye drops can cause more significant problems with prolonged or inappropriate use, including increased intraocular pressure, glaucoma, cataract formation and secondary ocular infections.
Important Safety Information
Use MOXIHEX-D only under the direction of an ophthalmologist or qualified healthcare professional.
- Do not use the product if you have a known allergy to moxifloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, dexamethasone or any component of the formulation.
- MOXIHEX-D is for topical ophthalmic use only.
- Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye, eyelids, fingers or other surfaces. Contamination can introduce microorganisms into the eye.
- Do not use steroid-containing eye drops for undiagnosed red eye or eye infection without professional assessment.
- Dexamethasone can suppress the body’s response to infection and may worsen or mask certain bacterial, fungal, mycobacterial and viral eye infections.
- The product is contraindicated in certain ocular infections, including epithelial herpes simplex keratitis and fungal or mycobacterial eye infections.
- Prolonged corticosteroid use can increase intraocular pressure and may contribute to glaucoma and cataract formation.
- If treatment continues for an extended period, the ophthalmologist may need to monitor intraocular pressure.
- Do not wear contact lenses when signs or symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis are present unless your eye-care professional advises otherwise.
- Tell your ophthalmologist about other eye drops, ointments or medicines you are using.
- Seek prompt medical attention for severe eye pain, reduced vision, marked sensitivity to light, worsening redness, significant swelling or other serious eye symptoms.
- Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only after professional medical advice.

Dosage & Administration
Use MOXIHEX-D exactly as prescribed by the ophthalmologist.
The appropriate dose and treatment duration depend on the diagnosis, severity of inflammation or infection and the patient’s clinical response. - Shake the bottle if the product label specifies shaking.
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface.
- Instill the prescribed number of drops into the affected eye.
