Description
LIAPTIN-5 contains Linagliptin 5 mg in tablet form. Linagliptin belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor class of oral antidiabetic medicines and helps improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by increasing the activity of incretin hormones, which support glucose-dependent insulin release and help reduce excessive glucagon secretion.

Therapeutic Segment
Anti-Diabetic Therapy | Type 2 Diabetes Management | DPP-4 Inhibitors | Blood Glucose Control
Uses of LIAPTIN-5
LIAPTIN-5 may be prescribed as part of an individualized treatment plan for:
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Inadequate blood glucose control with diet and exercise alone
- Patients requiring DPP-4 inhibitor therapy
- Improving glycaemic control when additional oral antidiabetic treatment is required
- Combination therapy with other diabetes medicines when clinically appropriate
- Long-term blood glucose management under medical supervision
Linagliptin is intended for the management of type 2 diabetes and does not replace appropriate diet, physical activity or regular blood glucose monitoring.
It is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Key Benefits of LIAPTIN-5
- Blood Glucose Control: Helps improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
- DPP-4 Inhibitor: Linagliptin increases incretin activity to support glucose-dependent insulin release.
- Helps Reduce Glucagon: Supports better glucose regulation by reducing inappropriate glucagon secretion when blood glucose is elevated.
- 5 mg Strength: Provides Linagliptin 5 mg in a convenient oral tablet.
- Low Hypoglycaemia Potential When Used Alone: Because its insulin-releasing effect depends largely on blood glucose levels, linagliptin has a relatively low risk of hypoglycaemia when used without medicines that independently lower blood glucose.
- Convenient Oral Formulation: Supplied as tablets for routine administration according to the prescribed regimen.
How LIAPTIN-5 Works
Linagliptin belongs to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class.
DPP-4 is an enzyme that breaks down incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP. Linagliptin inhibits DPP-4, allowing these hormones to remain active for longer.
As a result, linagliptin helps the pancreas release more insulin when blood glucose levels are elevated. At the same time, it reduces glucagon secretion when appropriate. Together, these effects help reduce blood glucose levels while supporting glucose-dependent regulation of insulin release.
Linagliptin undergoes limited renal elimination compared with some other DPP-4 inhibitors, which makes it a useful treatment option for many patients with type 2 diabetes, including those with renal impairment when prescribed appropriately.
Common Side Effects of LIAPTIN-5
Some people may experience side effects while taking Linagliptin. Possible effects include:
- Nasopharyngitis or common cold-like symptoms
- Cough
- Headache
- Diarrhoea
- Gastrointestinal discomfort
- Joint pain
- Skin rash
- Hypoglycaemia, particularly when used with insulin or sulfonylureas
Most side effects are mild, although individual responses can vary.
Seek medical attention if you develop severe or persistent symptoms, especially severe abdominal pain, signs of an allergic reaction or symptoms of significant low blood sugar.
Important Safety Information
Use LIAPTIN-5 only according to the advice of a qualified healthcare professional.
- LIAPTIN-5 is intended for adults with type 2 diabetes and should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Monitor blood glucose according to your diabetes-care plan.
- The risk of hypoglycaemia can increase when Linagliptin is combined with insulin or sulfonylureas. Your healthcare professional may adjust the dose of the accompanying medicine when appropriate.
- Linagliptin has been associated with cases of acute pancreatitis. Seek medical attention if you develop persistent or severe abdominal pain, particularly if the pain radiates toward the back.
- Tell your doctor if you have previously experienced pancreatitis.
- Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema and severe skin reactions, can rarely occur. Seek immediate medical attention for facial or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, widespread rash or other signs of a serious allergic reaction.
- Tell your healthcare professional about any history of heart failure or other significant cardiovascular conditions.
- Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems or other significant medical conditions.
- Linagliptin may interact with medicines that strongly induce certain drug-metabolizing pathways, such as rifampicin. Tell your healthcare professional about all medicines and supplements you take.
- Continue appropriate diet, physical activity and blood glucose monitoring during treatment.
- Discuss pregnancy and breastfeeding with your healthcare professional before using Linagliptin.
- Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Dosage & Administration
Take LIAPTIN-5 exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.
The commonly recommended adult dose of Linagliptin is 5 mg once daily, with or without food. However, the appropriate treatment plan should always follow the approved product information and the individual prescription.
Unlike some other DPP-4 inhibitors, Linagliptin generally does not require dose adjustment based solely on renal impairment. Nevertheless, your healthcare professional should consider kidney function and the complete clinical picture when selecting diabetes treatment.
Take the tablet with water and follow the prescribed schedule. Do not take extra tablets if you miss a dose. Follow your healthcare professional’s instructions for missed doses.
LIAPTIN-5 should be used alongside appropriate dietary measures, physical activity and regular monitoring as recommended for type 2 diabetes management.
