Description
AVSTN-GOLD-20 contains Atorvastatin 20 mg, Aspirin 75 mg and Clopidogrel 75 mg in capsule form. This combination brings together a statin with two antiplatelet medicines. Atorvastatin helps lower LDL cholesterol, while Aspirin and Clopidogrel reduce platelet aggregation. Therefore, healthcare professionals may prescribe this type of combination for selected patients as part of cardiovascular risk management when both lipid-lowering and antiplatelet therapy are clinically appropriate.

Uses of AVSTN-GOLD-20
AVSTN-GOLD-20 may be prescribed for selected patients who require both lipid-lowering and antiplatelet therapy.
Depending on the clinical condition, healthcare professionals may consider this type of combination for:
- Cardiovascular risk management
- Management of elevated LDL cholesterol
- Patients requiring Atorvastatin for lipid control
- Patients requiring antiplatelet therapy with Aspirin and Clopidogrel
- Selected patients following acute coronary syndromes or cardiovascular procedures
- Secondary prevention in patients with established cardiovascular disease when combination therapy is clinically appropriate
The exact indication depends on the patient’s cardiovascular history, cholesterol levels, bleeding risk, previous procedures and other medicines. Clopidogrel is used in conditions including acute coronary syndrome and in patients with recent myocardial infarction, recent stroke or established peripheral arterial disease.
Key Benefits of AVSTN-GOLD-20
- Lipid Management: Atorvastatin helps reduce LDL cholesterol and supports management of abnormal lipid levels.
- Clopidogrel Antiplatelet Action: Clopidogrel reduces platelet aggregation and helps reduce certain atherothrombotic events in appropriate patients.
- Aspirin Antiplatelet Action: Aspirin provides additional platelet-inhibiting activity when dual antiplatelet therapy is clinically indicated.
- Three-Component Formulation: Combines a statin with two antiplatelet medicines in one capsule.
- Cardiovascular Risk Management: May form part of an individualized cardiovascular treatment plan.
- Convenient Oral Formulation: Supplied as capsules for oral administration.
- ALU-ALU Packaging: Supplied in 10 × 10 ALU-ALU packaging.
How AVSTN-GOLD-20 Works
Atorvastatin belongs to the statin class. It inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol production in the liver. This increases hepatic LDL-receptor activity and helps remove LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. Atorvastatin is used alongside appropriate diet and lifestyle measures for lipid management and cardiovascular risk reduction.
Clopidogrel is a P2Y12 platelet inhibitor. After conversion to its active metabolite, it inhibits platelet P2Y12 receptors and reduces platelet aggregation. This helps reduce the formation of certain arterial blood clots in appropriate patients.
Aspirin also reduces platelet aggregation but works through a different pathway by inhibiting platelet cyclooxygenase activity and reducing thromboxane production.
Together, these three medicines address different components of cardiovascular risk. However, combining Aspirin and Clopidogrel also increases the importance of appropriate medical supervision because antiplatelet therapy can increase bleeding risk.
Common Side Effects of AVSTN-GOLD-20
Patients may experience side effects related to any of the three active ingredients. Possible effects include:
- Easy bruising
- Nosebleeds
- Stomach discomfort
- Indigestion
- Nausea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Muscle pain
- Weakness
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
Because Aspirin and Clopidogrel affect platelet function, bleeding is an important safety concern. Atorvastatin can also cause muscle-related adverse effects.
Report unexplained or persistent muscle pain, tenderness or weakness to your healthcare professional. Seek medical attention for unusual bleeding, black stools, vomiting blood or other serious symptoms.
Important Safety Information
Use AVSTN-GOLD-20 only under the direction of a qualified healthcare professional.
- Do not start, stop or change the dose without medical advice.
- Aspirin and Clopidogrel can increase the risk of bleeding. Tell your doctor if you have an active stomach ulcer, previous gastrointestinal bleeding, a bleeding disorder or another condition associated with increased bleeding risk.
- Inform your healthcare professional before surgery, dental procedures or other invasive procedures because antiplatelet medicines may require specific management.
- Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, particularly anticoagulants, NSAIDs, corticosteroids and other antiplatelet medicines.
- Avoid taking additional Aspirin, Clopidogrel or other antiplatelet medicines unless specifically prescribed.
- Clopidogrel’s antiplatelet activity can be reduced by omeprazole or esomeprazole. Inform your doctor before using these medicines together.
- Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid problems or a history of muscle-related problems before starting Atorvastatin.
- Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, particularly if symptoms become severe.
- Atorvastatin can cause liver enzyme abnormalities. Your healthcare professional may monitor liver function when clinically appropriate.
- Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements because several medicines can interact with Atorvastatin.
- Seek urgent medical attention for severe or uncontrolled bleeding, vomiting blood, black stools, severe muscle weakness, dark-coloured urine or other serious symptoms.
- Discuss pregnancy and breastfeeding with your healthcare professional before using this combination.
