Description

CLIDAM-N contains Clindamycin 1% w/w and Nicotinamide 4% w/w in topical gel form. Clindamycin is a topical antibiotic that helps reduce acne-associated bacteria and inflammation, while nicotinamide, also known as niacinamide, supports skin barrier function and can help reduce inflammation associated with acne-prone skin. CLIDAM-N may be prescribed for the topical management of acne vulgaris when antibiotic therapy is considered appropriate.

Uses of CLIDAM-N

CLIDAM-N may be prescribed as part of topical treatment for acne vulgaris, particularly when inflammatory acne requires topical antibiotic therapy.

Depending on the patient’s condition, it may help with:

  • Inflammatory acne lesions
  • Mild to moderate acne vulgaris
  • Acne-associated redness and inflammation
  • Bacterial involvement associated with acne
  • Acne-prone skin requiring topical treatment

Clindamycin targets susceptible bacteria associated with acne, while nicotinamide provides complementary anti-inflammatory and skin-supporting properties.

Topical antibiotics should generally be used for an appropriate duration and, where clinically suitable, alongside other acne treatments to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.

Key Benefits of CLIDAM-N

  • Acne Management: Clindamycin helps reduce bacteria associated with acne.
  • Anti-inflammatory Support: Both clindamycin and nicotinamide can contribute to reducing inflammatory activity in acne-prone skin.
  • Helps Reduce Acne Lesions: Supports topical management of inflammatory acne.
  • Nicotinamide 4%: Provides a skin-supporting ingredient with anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Topical Gel Formulation: Designed for convenient application to affected skin.
  • 20 GM Pack: Convenient topical formulation for acne-care treatment as directed.

How CLIDAM-N Works

Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic. It binds to the 50S subunit of susceptible bacterial ribosomes and inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. In topical acne treatment, this action helps reduce populations of bacteria associated with acne and can also reduce inflammatory lesions.

Nicotinamide is a form of vitamin B3. It participates in cellular processes and supports the skin barrier. Topical nicotinamide also has anti-inflammatory properties that may help improve the appearance and symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions.

Together, the two ingredients provide complementary antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and skin-supporting effects for appropriate acne treatment.

Common Side Effects of CLIDAM-N

Some people may experience local skin reactions after applying the gel. Possible effects include:

  • Dryness
  • Redness
  • Burning or stinging
  • Itching
  • Skin irritation
  • Peeling
  • Mild discomfort at the application site

Clindamycin applied to the skin can rarely cause significant gastrointestinal symptoms, including antibiotic-associated diarrhoea or colitis, because some absorption may occur.

Stop using the product and seek medical advice if you develop persistent or severe diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, blood in the stool or significant skin irritation.

Important Safety Information

Use CLIDAM-N only according to the instructions of a qualified healthcare professional.

  • CLIDAM-N is intended for external topical use only.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, lips and other mucosal surfaces.
  • Do not apply the gel to severely damaged or irritated skin unless advised by a healthcare professional.
  • Wash your hands before and after application unless the hands are being treated.
  • Do not use clindamycin-containing topical products unnecessarily or for longer than recommended because prolonged antibiotic exposure can contribute to bacterial resistance.
  • Avoid using multiple topical antibiotic products at the same time unless specifically recommended.
  • Tell your doctor if you have previously experienced antibiotic-associated colitis, severe diarrhoea or inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Clindamycin can rarely cause diarrhoea and colitis even when applied topically.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight if the treated skin becomes particularly sensitive or irritated.
  • Tell your healthcare professional about other acne medicines and skincare products you use, particularly products that may cause additional dryness or irritation.
  • Discuss pregnancy or breastfeeding with your healthcare professional before use.
  • Keep the product out of reach of children.
  • Stop treatment and seek medical advice if you develop severe irritation, swelling, difficulty breathing or other signs of an allergic reaction.

Dosage & Administration

Apply CLIDAM-N exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.

For topical clindamycin formulations, application is commonly recommended once or twice daily, depending on the specific formulation and prescription. The exact frequency for CLIDAM-N should follow the product label and healthcare professional’s instructions.

General application guidance:

  1. Clean the affected skin gently and allow it to dry.
  2. Apply a thin layer of CLIDAM-N to the affected acne-prone areas.
  3. Avoid the eyes, lips and other mucosal surfaces.
  4. Wash your hands after application.
  5. Do not apply excessive quantities or use the gel more frequently than recommended.
  6. Use the treatment for the prescribed duration.

Do not apply the gel only to individual visible pimples unless instructed otherwise. Acne treatment often works better when applied appropriately to the affected acne-prone area.

Because CLIDAM-N contains a topical antibiotic, do not continue treatment indefinitely without medical review.

Storage

  • Store CLIDAM-N in a cool, dry place.
  • Protect the gel from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
  • Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use.
  • Store in the original packaging.
  • Do not freeze the product.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
