Uses of ROSUVST-40

ROSUVST-40 may be prescribed as part of a treatment plan for patients who require significant LDL cholesterol reduction.

Depending on the patient’s condition, healthcare professionals may use rosuvastatin for:

  • Management of elevated LDL cholesterol
  • Hypercholesterolaemia
  • Mixed dyslipidaemia
  • Hypertriglyceridaemia as part of appropriate treatment
  • Certain inherited lipid disorders
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in appropriate patients
  • Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia as part of specialist lipid management

Rosuvastatin 40 mg is a high-intensity statin dose. Current prescribing information states that the 40 mg dose should generally be reserved for patients who have not reached their LDL-cholesterol goal with 20 mg.

The exact indication and dose depend on the patient’s lipid profile, cardiovascular risk, medical history and response to treatment.

Key Benefits of ROSUVST-40

  • LDL Cholesterol Reduction: Rosuvastatin helps reduce LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream.
  • Lipid Management: Helps manage abnormal blood lipid levels when prescribed appropriately.
  • High-Intensity Statin Therapy: The 40 mg strength provides one of the higher approved rosuvastatin doses.
  • Cardiovascular Risk Management: May form part of a long-term strategy to reduce cardiovascular risk in appropriate patients.
  • Once-Daily Formulation: Rosuvastatin is generally administered once daily.
  • Convenient Oral Dosage Form: Supplied as tablets for oral administration.
  • ALU-ALU Packaging: Supplied in 10 × 10 ALU-ALU packaging.

How ROSUVST-40 Works

Rosuvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor belonging to the statin class.

It inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol production in the liver. As a result, the liver increases the number of LDL receptors available to remove LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.

This action lowers circulating LDL cholesterol and can also improve other components of the lipid profile. Rosuvastatin therefore helps manage cholesterol levels when combined with appropriate diet, lifestyle measures and medical follow-up.

Because the 40 mg dose carries a greater risk of muscle-related adverse effects than lower doses, healthcare professionals use it selectively and monitor patients when appropriate.

Common Side Effects of ROSUVST-40

Some patients may experience side effects during rosuvastatin treatment. Possible effects include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Muscle aches
  • Muscle pain
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue

Rosuvastatin can occasionally cause more serious muscle-related problems, including myopathy and, rarely, rhabdomyolysis. The risk is higher with the 40 mg dose and in certain patients.

Contact your healthcare professional if you develop unexplained or persistent muscle pain, tenderness or weakness.

Important Safety Information

Use ROSUVST-40 only under the direction of a qualified healthcare professional.

  • Do not start, stop or change the dose without medical advice.
  • The 40 mg dose should generally be used only when the prescribed treatment plan requires it; prescribing information recommends reserving 40 mg for patients who do not reach their LDL-C goal with 20 mg.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, hypothyroidism or a history of muscle problems.
  • Report unexplained or persistent muscle pain, tenderness or weakness promptly.
  • Seek urgent medical attention if severe muscle symptoms occur, particularly if accompanied by unusual weakness or dark-coloured urine.
  • Rosuvastatin can cause liver enzyme abnormalities. Your healthcare professional may perform liver-function testing before treatment and subsequently when clinically appropriate.
  • Tell your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements you take because several medicines can interact with rosuvastatin.
  • Patients with severe renal impairment may require a lower dose; current prescribing information limits rosuvastatin to lower doses in severe renal impairment.
  • Rosuvastatin should not be used during pregnancy. Inform your healthcare professional if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or become pregnant during treatment.
  • Discuss breastfeeding with your healthcare professional before using rosuvastatin.
  • Continue appropriate diet, physical activity and lipid monitoring as advised by your healthcare professional.
  • Do not take an additional rosuvastatin-containing medicine unless specifically prescribed.

Dosage & Administration

Take ROSUVST-40 exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.

The usual adult rosuvastatin dosage range is 5 mg to 40 mg once daily. However, the appropriate strength depends on the patient’s LDL-C level, treatment goals, cardiovascular risk, response to therapy and other clinical factors. Current prescribing information specifically recommends using 40 mg only when the LDL-C goal has not been achieved with 20 mg.

ROSUVST-40 can generally be taken once daily, with or without food, at any time of day. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Do not increase the dose or take an additional tablet if you miss a dose. Follow your healthcare professional’s missed-dose instructions.

  • Keep the tablets in their original ALU-ALU packaging until use.
